Mission

Jetty Kamalamma's Foundation for Library Movement believes that reading opens the doors of the treasures of knowledge.  Given the right reading material, one can be exposed to good values in life. As a non-profit organization, our objective is to open mini-libraries around India to provide resources and facilities to give children and adults the opportunity to acquire adequate reading skills. We seek to continue to expand our mini-libraries into under-serviced villages to give everyone the opportunity to learn to read.

The Foundation

Many children in India are not reading at the proper grade appropriate level. We believe this is primarily due to the lack of appropriate content and availability of educational books.

CONTENT

The Foundation has launched a program to write simple books for primary school children. The books are in English with translation in Telugu so that the children will have the benefit of both English and their native language. The books are intended to be engaging, educational, and fun. The books are written across varying levels of difficulty to accommodate levels of aptitude approximately corresponding with classes 1-5.

The Foundation has written, published, and provided over 1,000 books as resources for children via mini-libraries. We are continually creating new material for the benefit of ongoing education. In the future, we plan to translate the books into other languages.

Books published by the Foundation for the mini-libraries can be viewed and even purchased online at a small cost to help continue to print books and establish additional libraries.

AVAILABILITY

We have established mini-libraries in 12 locations with plans to open an additional 12 this year. The existing mini-libraries have provided access to reading material for over 600 children in impoverished areas of India.

Our mini-libraries have experienced faculty and volunteers who assist in managing the inventory of the books. We utilize story telling and other activities at the centers to promote the habit of reading in children.
